So I'm a terrible guy. I didn't call my Grandmother for Mother's day until last night. We chatted for a while, its just silly that I let my time get squeezed by other stuff and don't take advantage of the reasonable times of the day to keep in touch.
Growing up, we were presented a strong sense of immediate family and its priority. As my own immediate family has begun, I find my focus even more devoted to it and, unfortunately at the expense of "extended" family and friends.
The events of September 11th triggered self-reflection (like that's hard for me). But even still, I tend to poorly maintain distance relationships with friends or family. I'm lucky to have these relationships with people that understand and "catching-up" is relaxed and fun. I guess its just that I equate the everyday routine with the support and caring for my immediate family.
PS. I plan on having some nerdier entries eventually...
